Agartala, Oct. 5 : Tipra Motha Party (TMP), an ally of BJP led coalition government in Tripura is set to submit petition in the Supreme Court seeking its direction to clear as many as 37 pending Bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), a senior leader said on Sunday.
The pending Bills include customary laws of different tribes and handing over land rights to the tribal council.
“As many as 37 Bills passed by the TTAADC are pending with the state government since the CPI (M) rule in the tribal council. Some Bills are eight to ten years old but still remain pending with the government”, TMP’s senior MLA Ranjit Debbarma Debbarma said.
He said a team of TMP including party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma will reach Delhi by Monday to discuss the matter with the senior lawyers.
“We have already decided to approach the Supreme Court seeking its intervention to get these Bills cleared. We want to know from the top court if the government or Governor is in favour of giving our rights or not”, he said.
Meanwhile, TMP supremo on Monday said the Supreme Court has delayed the listing of the petition over the Village Committee elections hearing.
The BJP ally has been trying to get the elections of Village Committees in Sixth Schedule areas at the earliest as it has already been delayed by five years.
“The Hon supreme court has delayed the listing of the VC hearing. We will get a fresh date tomorrow. The indigenous people have suffered and continue to suffer because some people want to control our fate through power, money and system. Let's not forget that frustration is growing amongst the youth and Gen Z ”, he wrote on Facebook
