Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday held the erstwhile Left government for keeping alive the Bru problem  leaving the people to lead a miserable life for 23 years.Thousands of Bru people had to leave  Mizoram following ethnic clashes in 1998 and took refuge in six camps of North Tripura’s Kanchanpur subdivision.“The Bru people who migrated from Mizoram to Tripura 23 years back are no longer ‘refugees’… They are permanent residents of our state following a historic agreement with the Centre and Mizoram government”, he said while addressing an election rally in Kanchanpur’s Gachirampara Bru settlement village.Alleging that the Left government has kept the Bru problem alive for 23 years, Saha said it was the BJP government which has solved their problem by signing an agreement in 2020.“It has been possible because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s initiatives who are keen to solve the Bru problem at the earliest. Now, the Bru people who are permanently settled in 12 locations of the state are happy and leading a decent life. There might be problems at Bru resettlement villages but we will address whatever hardships they face there”, he said. Claiming that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the guarantee of the development of tribals, the Chief Minister said it was the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who brought the Look East Policy to ensure development in the Northeast
