DFS Secretary Stresses Responsible Loan Utilisation, Entrepreneurship and NPA Control in Tripura

Emphasising responsible credit utilisation and entrepreneurship-driven growth, M. Nagaraju has called upon loan beneficiaries across Tripura to utilise sanctioned financial assistance productively and ensure that loan accounts do not slip into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs).Addressing a financial outreach and development programme held at Rajarshi Auditorium in Udaipur on Monday, the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, underscored that beneficiaries receiving loans under various government and banking schemes must establish viable economic activities and maintain financial discipline.He observed that entrepreneurship and self-employment have emerged as important solutions to address unemployment concerns in Tripura. According to him, the establishment of individual business ventures and local enterprises has strengthened opportunities for employment generation while contributing to the state’s economic development.Highlighting the broader developmental role of financial institutions, Nagaraju emphasised that banks should actively undertake skill development and entrepreneurship promotion initiatives under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Strengthening entrepreneurial capacities among youth and beneficiaries, he said, remains essential for sustaining enterprises and reducing the risk of loan defaults.The DFS Secretary also urged the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati district to maximise institutional support and opportunities available through SIDBI to expand local enterprise and livelihood generation initiatives.Earlier in the day, the programme commenced with the inauguration of a cluster development branch at Udaipur under SIDBI, followed by the main financial outreach event. Senior banking officials and dignitaries attended the occasion.The formal session began with ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by welcome remarks delivered by M. Paramasivam and an address by Rama Mohan Rao Amara.A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of sanction letters to selected beneficiaries covering 4,577 bank accounts involving total sanctions of Rs.105.40 crore. Financial support was extended across retail loans, MUDRA, KCC for agriculture and fisheries, SHGs, JLGs, MSMEs, PMEGP, PMSVANidhi and PM Vishwakarma schemes.Development support through NABARD also formed part of the event, with Rs.161.84 lakh allocated for livelihood enhancement of 34 Reang tribal beneficiaries and Rs.34.16 lakh planned for scientific pig farming through Bagma Agri Producer Company benefiting 70 farmers.The programme reflected the Government of India’s continued emphasis on expanding institutional finance, strengthening entrepreneurship and promoting inclusive economic growth across Tripura.
