In alignment with the Skill India Mission, the Central Government launched the "Pradhan Mantri
Kaushal Vikas Yojana" (PMKVY) on July 15, 2015, to enable Indian youth to take up industry-
relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.Individuals with prior
experience are also assessed and certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).Since its
inception, an impressive 1.37 Crore candidates have been trained under the scheme.

In the Union Budget 2023-2024, the Union Minister for Finance announced the launch of
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0, which aims to skill lakhs of youth over the next
three years. This new iteration of the scheme will emphasize on-job training, industry
partnerships, and aligning courses with the evolving needs of industries, including emerging
areas such as coding, artificial intelligence, robotics, mechatronics, IoT, 3D printing, drones, and
soft skills.Further, to provide international opportunities to skilled youth, the Central
Government has proposed the establishment of 30 Skill India International Centres across the
country.
Overall, PMKVY benefits the youth by providing them with employable skills, contributes to the
economy by enhancing productivity, and helps in nation-building by fostering human capital
development. It is a significant initiative in India's skill development landscape, aiming to create
a skilled and empowered workforce for a prosperous future.
