Financial Literacy Programme for SHG Leaders Held at Ramchandra Ghat

A Financial Literacy Awareness Programme for Self Help Group (SHG) leaders has been organized today at Ramchandra Ghat under Khowai District, Tripura. The event, hosted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Agartala Office, witnessed participation from representatives of various SHGs in the region.Madhumita Sarkar, Manager of RBI Agartala, played a central role in the programme, where she addressed multiple banking-related topics. Her presentation emphasized the significance of availing insurance schemes, utilizing banking facilities for income generation, and accessing services offered by commercial banks. Notably, she placed strong emphasis on the growing concerns of banking fraud and urged participants to remain vigilant. “Proper utilization of banking services can ensure greater benefits for customers in the future,” she added.Sudip Majumder, Managing Director of Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited (BAPCL), also spoke at the event. He highlighted the importance of financial literacy in enhancing rural entrepreneurship and explained various banking benefits in detail. Majumder mentioned that BAPCL is currently implementing the RBI’s financial literacy initiative, ‘Money Wise’, across all 58 blocks in Tripura. “Banking facilities are vital for capital formation, a key component in the production process,” he said.Nilima Deb, Upa-Pradhan of Ramchandra Ghat Gram Panchayat, underlined the need for spreading financial awareness in villages, especially among SHG leaders, to promote inclusive growth.Adding an academic perspective, Kiran Bhowmik, PhD Scholar from the Department of Economics, Tripura University, stressed the critical role of banking in advancing women entrepreneurship. “While capital and labour are the primary factors of production, accessing and utilizing capital is crucial for SHG members to scale their businesses,” he remarked.The programme served as a meaningful step towards strengthening the financial acumen of SHG leaders and fostering economic self-reliance in rural Tripura
