Employees deprived of salaries for three months; anger growing For the past three months, the REGA engineers and other employees under the Ampi RD Block of Gomati district have been deprived of their salaries. From September to November—three consecutive months—REGA engineers have not received their pay. On the other hand, several other REGA employees under the same block have not been paid for October and November. Even though the 3rd day of the current month has already passed, there is still no update regarding their salaries. When the employees questioned the higher officials of the office about the matter, they were told that different issues with the online system were responsible. But this same excuse has been repeated for the past three months. This raises the question: Is there really no solution to this problem? Or is this delay happening intentionally because the irregular REGA employees work directly under the block officials—are they being harassed deliberately? Such suspicions are now circulating widely among the employees.During Durga Puja, the biggest festival for Bengalis, not only were the REGA engineers deprived of their salaries, they also did not receive Puja advance or bonuses. On top of that, they have gone without salary from the Puja month till now. Whenever they approach senior officials regarding the issue, they receive only delaying tactics and excuses month after month. Because of the lack of a clear response from the authorities, many REGA employees suspect that some kind of scam or malpractice may be taking place in the Ampi Block. Or perhaps a group with malicious intentions is trying to harass irregular employees. And if there truly is an official issue, how long will the employees have to bear the consequences? With the Ampi RD Block failing to resolve the issue entirely, both the Gomati District Administration and the Block Officials are now facing serious questions. No one knows when or how the problem will finally be solved.
