Agartala: Nov 21: A young woman and three men were arrested in Agartala on Thursday afternoon for involvement in drug peddling. The arrests were made after a raid by the East Agartala police in a park near Lakshmi Narayan Temple, where the suspects were allegedly selling drugs. The individuals have been identified as Deepika Debnath, Jalil Mia, Pritam Das, and Akash Debnath. During the raid, police recovered several lakhs worth of brown sugar from the group.

Following the arrests, a case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Initial interrogation revealed that not only were they involved in selling brown sugar, but they also consumed the drug themselves. In addition to the drugs, the police confiscated Rs. 7,500 in cash and mobile phones from the suspects. According to Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, the amount of money seized was earned by the group from drug sales on that day alone.

Chatterjee also revealed that the arrested individuals, aged between 20 and 30 years, were part of a larger drug distribution network, with several others currently absconding. The police are actively pursuing these individuals and are confident of making further arrests. The police raid marks a significant step in tackling drug-related activities in the city, and law enforcement is determined to disrupt the operations of drug peddlers in Agartala.
