Poll panel receives 15 MCC violation complaints, five govt employees suspended, says CEO

Altogether 15 Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation complaints were lodged by the different political parties in Tripura so far, said a poll official on Thursday.There are several ways to file complaints, such as using C-vigil, National Grievance Service Portal, by submitting physical copies and suo moto to the poll panel."Whatever complaints we are being lodged, we verify these by respective Returning Officials and Assistant Returning Officers. If the complaints are genuine, we take action as per the provision”, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Puneet Agarwal told the reporters. “The election panel has received 15 complaints in regard to violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) since it (MCC) came into effect from March 16. Sometimes, we do initiate inquiry suo moto and take necessary steps. Five government employees have so far been suspended for violating model code of conduct so far”, he said.Agarwal said as many as 84 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have already been deployed in the state since April 1 to ensure free and fair elections.The election to Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency and byelection to Ramnagar Assembly seat is scheduled to be held on April 19 and voting in Tripura East Parliamentary constituency will take place on April 26.“They are deployed in different areas and carrying out flag marches, area dominations and mobile patrolling as part of confidence building measures”, he said
