Power Minister assures smooth electricity supply during Durga Puja

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) is fully prepared to provide uninterrupted power supply during the Durga Puja days across the state.Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath informed this after chairing a virtual meeting with the TSECL MD, Director (Technical), GM (TPGL), GM (TPTL), DGMs, and Senior Managers.Later, the Minister said that he chaired the virtual meeting on behalf of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all consumers and puja pandals.“Today we held a review meeting with the Secretary (Power), Managing Director, and all officials. In this meeting, we reviewed our preparations to identify any shortcomings. In our state, we have 16 power divisions and 79 power sub-divisions. We have held meetings with all the divisions and sub-divisions. Directions have been issued that transformers should be properly maintained, and that vehicles and staff must be made available to provide proper services. Additional agencies will be present, and 1912 has been instructed to remain alert,” said the Power Minister.The Minister further said that trom Monarchak, about 60 MW is generated, from Rukhia 19 MW, and from Mizoram an additional 40 MW is kept in reserve, which they will provide us during Puja, and we will return to them during Christmas.“All the substations have been properly maintained. In the meeting, we also took opinions from division managers and senior managers. We are hopeful that, just as we have provided power services without interruption in the last two years, this year too we will ensure the same. Everyone must remain cautious regarding power use. Apart from the control room, we have also decided to deploy an extra team at big puja pandals to take necessary steps. All preventive measures have been taken to avert any kind of incident. All steps have been taken to ensure smooth power supply,” he said.The Power Minister informed that on 1st September, the demand was 376 MW, which was the highest so far, and yesterday it was 320 MW.He added that during Durga Puja in 2022, the demand was 332 MW, in 2023 it was 311 MW, in 2024 it was 312 MW, and this year the expectation is around 380 MW.“Last year, around 3,500 pujas were organized across the state. So far this year, 3,500 applications have been received for temporary connections, which will be provided by tomorrow. Special control rooms will be opened for Durga Puja at both division and sub-division levels,” he added.
