Restriction imposed on selling of petrol, diesel to avoid fuel crisis

The state government imposed restriction on selling of petrol and diesel from Wednesday after fuel stock dwindled to an ‘alarming level’ due to disruption in railway service, said a senior official.The rail connectivity to the northeastern state was hit by massive landslides in Assam’s Jatinga but long distance trains have started moving through the affected track from April 26 after restoration work. However, train service through Jatinga still remains closed during the night.“In view of the supply constraint, of petrol and diesel due to disruption in goods movement through Railway into the state, it has been decided to impose restriction on sale of fuel – petrol and diesel in the state from May 1 to until further order”, said Addl Secretary of Food and Civil Supplies, Nirmal Adhikari.“For two wheelers and three wheelers, petrol amounting to Rs. 200 per day while it stands at 500 in case of four wheelers. 80 liters, 60 liters and 45 liters can be sold per day for 12 wheelers, 10 wheelers and 6 wheelers respectively”, Adhikarhi wrote in the order.In case of diesel, 60 liters for bus while 40 liters for mini bus and 15 liters for three wheelers may be given until further order, he said adding the fuel stock has already dwindled to an alarming level due to disruption in train service for the past few days.When contacted, Chief PRO of NFR, Sabyasachi De said the railway track was badly affected due to landslides at Jatinga in Assam’s Dima Hasao district recently. “After restoration work, train service began through Jatinga from April 26 but train service during night time is still not allowed. Naturally, movement of goods trains remains stopped. But there has been significant progress in the restoration work at Jatinga. We are hopeful of restoring normal train service shortly”, he said.
