Ruling dispensation to face trouble if electors allowed to vote freely, says Ex CM Manik Saha

Agartala, June 4: Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday claimed the ruling dispensation will face trouble if the electors are allowed to exercise their democratic rights freely and fearlessly.

The assertion came days after Chief Minister Mank Saha’s statement to reduce CPI (M)’s strength from ten to zero in the state Assembly. At present, the CPI (M) has ten MLAs in the 60-member Assembly.

“It is not impossible to reduce our strength from 10 to zero if voters are threatened, votes are looted and elections are rigged. But they will be in trouble if electors are allowed to cast their votes free and fearlessly. It was demonstrated in the last Assembly elections”, he told the reporters in the sideline of the blood donation camp organized by the CITU.  

Sarkar added, “Even we are being reduced to zero, it makes no problem for us because the Communists are raising voices for the interest of the common people. Our state headquarters, which is close to the CM's official residence and DGP Office were attacked in broad daylight but no one came to douse flame”.

Vehicular movement at Negarjala normal following CM’s intervention 

Agartala, June 4: The vehicular movement through Nagerjala motor stand, a key facility for vehicles plying on different roads in South Tripura, Gomati and Sepahijala district was as usual following intervention of Chief Minister Manik Saha.

The BMS affiliated syndicate had called an indefinite strike after its leader Litan Kar was openly assaulted by another group led by local corporator, Abhijit Mallik on Wednesday.

“We had called an indefinite strike at Negarjala motor stand from Thursday after an attack on our leader, Litan Kar by a group of miscreants backed by local corporator, Abhijit Mallik. However, following a request from the Chief Minister through local leadership, we have decided withdraw strike”, a BMS leader said.

He added, “We were assured that there will be a high level meeting on June 6 to resolve our issues pertaining to running the motor stand. We are hopeful of amiable solution to the mismanagement of the motor stand”, he said.

Veteran Communist leader Manik Sarkar was quick to respond to what has happened at Nagerjala motor stand- clash between two groups of BMS.

“Media reports suggest the people who run the motor stand collect money from the drivers. The money was supposed to be used for welfare of the motor workers and development of the facility. But what we heard there was no drinking water facility at the motor stand! The two groups clashed each other over distribution of money”, the former Chief Minister told the reporters
