Senior DFS Officials Visit NABARD Tripura RO, Stress Financial Inclusion and Project Monitoring

Ashish Madhaorao More, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and Director on the Board of NABARD, visited NABARD Tripura Regional Office on 27 May 2026. Shwetha Rao B., Director, DFS, Anup Kumar Saha, GM, Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB), and other officials from DFS and TGB, accompanied him. Significantly, this marked the first visit of senior DFS officials from the Government of India to NABARD Tripura RO.During the visit, the team interacted with NABARD officials to understand and assess NABARD’s role in Tripura in the areas of credit dispensation, rural infrastructure development, institutional strengthening, and developmental and promotional interventions. A presentation was made by Tanushri Bhattacharyya, Officer-in-Charge, Tripura RO, highlighting major initiatives undertaken by NABARD Tripura, including RIDF-supported infrastructure projects, promotion and market linkage of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), livelihood development initiatives for tribal families, promotion of remunerative activities for Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the Gram Vihar Project at the Unakoti World Heritage Site, and support extended to cooperatives and the RRB for strengthening financial inclusion through digitisation and capacity building.The Joint Secretary, DFS, appreciated NABARD’s unique and impactful role in rural development and its continued support to the last mile. He urged NABARD to further intensify financial inclusion initiatives in remote and tribal areas to ensure access to financial services for the underserved and needy sections of the population. He also emphasised the need for timely appraisal and regular monitoring of projects to bridge gaps between physical and financial progress.Further, the Joint Secretary highlighted the importance of NABARD RO’s role in compilation and sanitisation of data to ensure accuracy and consistency, which would support DFS in informed policy formulation and decision-making. He advised strengthening convergence with the State Finance Department and exploring the need-based engagement of consultants.The Joint Secretary conveyed his best wishes to the NABARD team to continue its good work for the cause of rural India as an extended arm of NABARD Head Office and DFS, Government of India.
