Sepahijala district named best in NE at National Water Awards

Sepahijala district has been honoured as the best-performing district in the Northeast region at the 6th National Water Awards 2024, organised by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. The announcement was made at a ceremony held at Shram Shakti Bhawan in New Delhi, attended by Union Minister C. R. Paatil.Instituted by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the National Water Awards recognise outstanding efforts in water conservation and management across multiple categories, including best state, district, and urban body. This year, 46 winners were selected from among 751 entries submitted from across the country.Officials said Sepahijala’s recognition reflects its remarkable initiatives in sustainable water management, community participation, and the promotion of efficient water-use practices. The district has implemented several model projects that focus on rainwater harvesting, rejuvenation of water bodies, and awareness programmes aimed at long-term water security.The official award presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 18 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest.Launched in 2018, the National Water Awards aim to encourage innovation and commitment toward creating a “Jal Samridh Bharat” (Water-Prosperous India) by honouring individuals, organisations, and administrative units that demonstrate excellence in water resource management
