Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Saturday said that the state government has increased the social pension for persons with disabilities ten times of what they used to get five years ago. According to the Minister, the social pension for persons with disabilities stood at Rs 500 per month five years ago.“In March 2025, the Chief Minister announced a hike in the social pension for challenged children for the second time and now it stands at Rs 5,000. Earlier, it was Rs 2000 and five years ago it was just Rs 500 or something above that per month,” the Minister said. The Minister was speaking at an event organised by the Unakoti District office of Social Welfare and Social Education Department to mark the occasion of Seva Pakshik. In the event organised at Unakoti Kala Kshetra, as many as 91 specially challenged people received aids from the department.According to the Minister, no one can share the hard work parents and loved ones do to raise challenged children or for that matter taking care of a person with disability but the Chief Minister wanted to make sure that all these families receive enough financial support from the government.“I have seen a father who despite his best efforts could not make his son sit in the room. The parents make a lot of sacrifices to raise a child who is physically or mentally challenged. We can’t share their pain. But, if we can support them financially, it can be a great thing. The Chief Minister understood that and took timely intervention to hike the social pension for Divyangya people,” he added
