TMP delegation meets CM, demands timely election in tribal council

15 : The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), an ally of BJP led coalition government in Tripura met Chief Minister Manik Saha and demanded timely general elections to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), said a party leader on Thursday.The present five-year tenure of tribal council running by the TMP is set to be expired on April 18, 2026.“A five-member delegation of our party headed by tribal council’s Executive Member (EM) Rabindra Debbarma met Chief Minister Manik Saha in his residence on Wednesday and discussed some important issues”, party spokesperson CK Jamatia said during a press conference.He said the delegation urged the Chief Minister to ensure holding general elections to the TTAADC before its tenure gets expired on April 18, 2026.“On tribal council end, the necessary preparations including sending of reservation status on the seats to the Tribal Welfare department have been done. We want the election to take place on schedule to evade any constitutional impasse”, he said.(Rabindra) Debbarma said the delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister pressing for adoption of Roman script for Kokborok language for overall development of the mother tongue of most the tribes in the northeastern state.“The Chief Minister it spears has softened his stand on the Roman script for Kakborok language for which the indigenous people have been fighting for several years. We hope the Chief Minister will take a realistic step on the issue”, he said.Debbarma said the Chief Minister has exhorted the delegation to meet the chairmen of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) in Delhi to introduce Roman script for Kokborok language.“After consultation with party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, a party delegation will shortly visit Delhi to meet the heads of CBSE and ICSE for adoption of Roman script for Kokborok language”, he said
