Agartala, May 2, 2024 — A devastating bus accident involving aspiring candidates for the Tripura State Cooperative Bank (TSCB) has left one person dead and approximately 40 others injured. The incident has triggered protests by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), who are blaming the state government’s decision to conduct the exam in Assam for the tragic outcome.

The ill-fated bus, carrying around 40 candidates from Tripura, was en route to Guwahati, Assam, for the TSCB recruitment exam scheduled for Friday. Unfortunately, the accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday near Dittokcherra in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

Deepraj Debbarma, a candidate from Dhalai district, lost his life at the scene, while several others suffered injuries, with six of them in critical condition. The injured were swiftly transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and other nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

The SFI has expressed outrage over the state government’s decision to hold the exam outside Tripura, especially considering the existing digital infrastructure within the state for the past six years. They allege that this move was deliberate and has resulted in the loss of lives.

“The state government shows no concern for the well-being of Tripura’s youth. Forcing them to travel to other states for exams puts their lives at unnecessary risk,” stated an SFI leader.

In response to the tragedy, the SFI is demanding a thorough investigation into the accident and compensation for the victims and their families. Additionally, they are calling for the cancellation of the ongoing recruitment process and the relocation of the exam venue to Tripura.

As of now, the state government has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
