Training Programme on Improved Cultivation Techniques of Groundnut Held at Bagma

A one-day training programme on “Improved Cultivation Techniques of Groundnut” was successfully organized today at the Conference Hall of Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited (BAPCL). The programme was jointly organized by the College of Agriculture, Tripura, in collaboration with the ICAR–Indian Institute of Groundnut Research (IIGR), Junagadh, and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Tripura, with active support from BAPCL.The event was graced by Dr. Utpal Giri, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), and Dr. Durga Prasad Awasthi, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology), from the College of Agriculture, Tripura.Sudip Majumder, Managing Director, BAPCL, and Md. Farukul Islam, Chief Executive Officer, BAPCL, were also present during the programme.Around 30 progressive groundnut farmers from the districts of Gomati, South, Sepahijala, and Khowai participated actively in the training. The resource persons, Dr. Giri and Dr. Awasthi, conducted detailed technical sessions on scientific groundnut cultivation, focusing on critical topics such as variety selection, land preparation, seed treatment, fertilizer and nutrient management, irrigation scheduling, pest and disease control, and harvesting techniques.Both experts stressed the importance of adopting improved cultivation practices and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to boost productivity, ensure crop quality, and enhance farmers’ income. An interactive session followed, during which the farmers shared their field experiences and discussed the challenges they face in groundnut cultivation.The participants highly appreciated the scientific and practical insights provided by the experts and expressed their willingness to apply the improved techniques in their own fields for better yield and profitability.The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of all partner institutions and the active participation of farmers. The event marked a significant step toward promoting sustainable and improved groundnut cultivation practices in Tripura
