Tripura Allocates Rs 50 Crore for Skill Development, Eyes AI Training with US Firms

The Government of Tripura has allocated ₹50 crore to strengthen skill development initiatives across the state, with a focus on equipping unemployed youth with advanced skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies. The announcement was made by the Minister of Industries and Commerce during the ceremonial flagging off of *Kaushal Vans* for all eight districts on Saturday.Highlighting the importance of the initiative, the Minister said, “All government departments must collaborate effectively to deliver results. Our goal is to enhance the employability of the youth through targeted, result-oriented projects.” The *Kaushal Vans* will traverse the state, disseminating information about various skill development programs. “A skilled individual has a better chance of securing employment or starting their own business,” he added.As part of this initiative, the Directorate of Skill Development has started talks with US-based companies to provide AI-focused training to Tripura's youth. Muhammad Sajad P., Director of the department, emphasized the need for modern skillsets, stating, “With the advent of Artificial Intelligence, tools like ChatGPT, and drone technology, industries are undergoing a major transformation. Traditional training alone will not suffice; we need to equip our youth with skills that prepare them for the future.”The government is in discussions with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to partner with a US-based firm for AI skill training. Additionally, talks are underway with IBM to introduce similar programs in the state.This initiative aims to position Tripura as a leader in modern skill development and open new avenues for employment and entrepreneurship
