Agartala: Dec 18: In protest against the financial corruption of Gautam Adani, the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, and the silence of the central government on these issues, the Tripura Pradesh Congress organized a Raj Bhavan March in Agartala. The massive rally, led by Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, former President Piyush Kanti Biswas, Congress leader Mohammad Badruzzaman, and others, began at the Agartala Press Club on Wednesday, following the directives of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The procession aimed to reach the Raj Bhavan, but it was halted by the police at the Circuit House after Congress workers attempted to break through police barricades. Despite the disruption, a meeting was held at the site.
Ashish Kumar Saha criticized the central government for its inaction regarding Adani’s financial corruption and the ongoing crisis in Manipur. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not once visited Manipur despite the continuing violence, and there was a lack of action from the government on these issues. He further emphasized that the Congress Party’s actions were aimed at raising public awareness, demanding an investigation into corruption, and urging the Prime Minister to restore peace in Manipur. The Congress also raised concerns about the government’s silence on rising violence against minorities in Bangladesh, linking it to the BJP’s alleged motives to secure Hindu votes in India.
In addition, MLA Sudip Roy Barman accused Adani of tax evasion and corruption, claiming that the BJP was using Adani’s wealth to fund election campaigns. He criticized the Modi government's ties with Adani, alleging that key national infrastructure deals were being awarded to him. Barman also expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the police force, claiming that it was powerless in the face of rising injustice. The protest concluded with a call for unity among the people to resist corruption and demand justice.
