Agartala: Dec 12: The Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024, scheduled for December 14th, has created considerable excitement, especially with renowned Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal set to perform at the event. The main event will take place at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in the capital, and the distribution of entry passes for this event began on Wednesday at the Tourism Department’s office. These passes are being given away free of cost, which has attracted a large number of people eager to attend.
However, the process of distributing these passes has been plagued with issues. On Thursday morning, hundreds of people gathered outside the Tourism Department’s office, forming long queues that only grew over time. Despite the presence of two counters for distribution, individuals complained of severe mismanagement, with delays leading to frustration. Many people stood in line for hours, unsure if they would even receive their passes due to the significant holdup.
The situation escalated when, surprisingly, the Tourism Department office closed at 2:30 PM, leaving thousands of people waiting in line. This led to growing unrest among the crowd, with many young and middle-aged individuals becoming agitated. A protest ensued, where for about an hour and a half, the Tourism Department staff were unable to leave the office. The situation became tense enough that paramilitary forces had to be deployed, and the staff locked themselves inside for safety.
As evening approached, the situation gradually came under control. The public questioned whether such chaos could have been avoided if the passes had been distributed efficiently and according to rules. Some accused the event organizers of not making adequate arrangements for the passes, which contributed to the confusion and disorder. The last two days have been marked by frustration and chaos, highlighting the need for better management in future events.
