Agartala: Dec 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the state-of-the-art Border Guarding Force (BGF) accommodations at Agartala and Petrapole land ports today. This initiative aims to enhance the welfare and operational capabilities of India's border security forces.
Petrapole, India's largest land port, is a crucial gateway for trade with Bangladesh, significantly contributing to the region's economic development. The new accommodation for border security personnel in Petrapole is expected to further improve the efficiency and effectiveness of border security in this vital trade hub.
Similarly, the Agartala land port, located on the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, serves as an essential medium for trade and communication between the two countries. The improved facilities at the port, including the new accommodation, are anticipated to boost trade, facilitate border management, and drive progress in the local economy.
Approved in December 2018 with an investment of around Rs. 55 crores, the new facilities at the two land ports have been built to improve the living standards of SSB personnel. In Petrapole land port, a 13,339 square meter area houses an officer's block, a subordinate officer's block, a jawan's block, and a women's block for the women's unit. The officer's block can accommodate 5 officers and includes a dining area, kitchen, and rest facilities. The subordinate officer's block can accommodate 24 personnel, while the jawan's block has accommodation for a significant number of jawans with improved and adequate facilities.
In the Agartala land port, accommodation for border security personnel spans 8093.7 square meters and includes blocks with all amenities for border security personnel. The women's block has been built to accommodate 8 women jawans comfortably. The officer's block, covering an area of 659 square meters, provides residential facilities for 5 officers. A four-story building, a subordinate officer's block, and a jawan's block house 16 subordinate officers and 128 jawans, including a dining hall, kitchen, and a multipurpose hall.
