CPM-Cong backed panel win Tripura Bar Association elections

The CPI(M)-Congress backed ‘Save Constitution Forum’ won the elections of Tripura Bar Association, biggest lawyers’ organization in Tripura by defeating BJP-Tipra Motha’s panel Aainjebi Unnayan Mancha, said a senior advocate.Mrinal Kanti Biswas (Congress) and Koushik Indu (CPIM), who contested under the banner of Save Constitution Forum and won the election as president and secretary of Tripura Bar Association respectively by defeating BJP backed lawyers’ panel in the election held among 500 voters on Sunday.Two panels won one each as asst secretary of Tripura Bar Association but BJP nominee Subrata Debnath, who contested as vice president appeared victorious in the election, said Returning Officer, Sandeep Dutta Chowdhury on Monday.Fifteen nominations were submitted for the Bar Association elections held for 15-member executive committee.Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury, who is  also the CPI(M) state secretary, on Monday congratulated the ‘landslide’ victory of Save Constitution Forum in the elections of Tripura Bar Association.“This should not be merely seen as the election of an odd few hundred number of legal minds but the reflection of our Indian populace who are feeling immensely worried and insecure due to the unholistic design for the ruling dispensation of our country”, he said.“This verdict is a decisive sign for the collective will of common masses before the ensuing Lok Sabha election. The task ahead is not merely to vote for a candidate or party in order to form a new government or to implement a new set of programme but a patriotic duty of every rightful citizen to save the constitution, its secular fabric , plurality and democratic polity”, he said
