Agartala, April 12,  In a charged election rally held in Taibandal today, BJP candidate for the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, Biplab Kumar Deb, took aim at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM.

Deb’s remarks centered on the transformation of Tripura’s former Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar. According to Deb, Sarkar, who once led the state under communist rule, has now embraced nationalism in an effort to safeguard the country. Deb’s sarcasm was evident as he questioned the authenticity of this newfound patriotism.

The BJP candidate criticized the communist legacy in Tripura, asserting that there was no “golden age” for the people during their rule. He emphasized that the left-leaning parties had monopolized that era. Furthermore, Deb accused the communists of lacking an understanding of Indian customs and traditions.

Interestingly, while the communists in Tripura have aligned with the Congress to secure their political survival, the same parties are engaged in fierce battles in Kerala. Deb highlighted this contradiction, suggesting that party boundaries often supersede state interests.

Deb also turned his attention to the historical context. During the communist regime, Tripura witnessed numerous challenges, including riots and violence. The Congress-CPI(M) clashes resulted in casualties, with 12 CPM workers losing their lives in Virchandra Manu. Deb recounted gruesome incidents, such as the brutal murder of Sridham Pal, whose throat was slit, and a macabre game of football played with his severed head.

In a separate twist, Deb singled out Jitendra Chowdhury, a prominent figure in Tripura politics. Deb questioned Chowdhury’s suitability for the ST seat in the assembly elections, citing his lack of substantial contributions to the welfare of the people. Deb labeled Chowdhury as the “hero of the ginger scam” and cast doubt on his aspirations to become Chief Minister.

As the electoral landscape unfolds, Tripura remains a battleground where political allegiances shift, and leaders grapple for supremacy. Stay tuned for further updates as the election season progresses.
