West Bengal B.Ed Colleges Regain Affiliation After Court Order

Agartala: Mar 26: In a significant development, nearly 400 B.Ed colleges in West Bengal have regained their affiliation status. Earlier, these institutions faced the cancellation of their affiliations, causing uncertainty for students studying there. The cancellation announcement by the state government had repercussions for students, particularly those from the tribal community in Tripura, who rely on scholarships to pursue their B.Ed degrees.

However, a recent Calcutta High Court order has paved the way for these colleges to resume teaching students. The court directed the West Bengal government to allow the canceled colleges to function once again. This decision comes after months of legal proceedings and deliberations.

The situation had created a time crunch for scholarship applications. According to the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) rules of the Tribal Welfare Department, the deadline for applications was set until February 29. Unfortunately, due to the court order issued on March 7, the admission process in these colleges began between March 18 and 23, leaving many students unable to submit their scholarship forms within the stipulated time.

In response, the TSU Central Committee and B.Ed students led by the TSU submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Director of the Tribal Welfare Department, urging an extension of the scholarship application deadline. The court’s intervention has provided hope for students, ensuring that their educational pursuits can continue without further disruption.
