Agartala, Sept 06: The  Assembly witnessed a heated debate over the Shantiniketan Medical College, with opposition parties accusing the state government of irregularities in its establishment.

The opposition demanded a joint legislative committee to investigate the allegations, but their request was initially ignored. Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman brought up a notice regarding the state government's permission to use the IGIM Hospital as a teaching hospital for the Shantiniketan Medical College.

Chief Minister defended the government's decision, stating that all necessary procedures had been followed and that the National Medical Commission had granted approval after conducting a thorough inspection.

The opposition expressed concerns over the haste with which the state government granted approval to the medical college, despite the Chief Minister's earlier claim of being unaware of the project. They argued that this raised questions about transparency and accountability.

The debate escalated, with opposition members staging a walkout in protest. The Assembly session was adjourned amid the uproar.
