The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura successfully touched its target of the membership drive and received applause for the performance from the party’s high command, in-charge of the state’s membership campaign and MLA Bhagaban Das has said. According to Das, the state unit of the BJP has so far enrolled 12 lakh 23 thousand 392 members from different parts of the state. “West Tripura district has contributed the highest number of members this time while Sepahijala district came last in terms of membership renews. The below average performance of the district despite poll outcomes in our favour calls for organisational introspection. However, we have achieved our target quite smoothly. In the remaining five days, we may be able to collect more members to volunteer for our party,” hoped an optimistic Das.The drive was supposed to end on November 15 but the party’s central leadership extended it for another week. According to Das, out of 25 lakh voters more than 12 lakh people extended their support towards BJP publicly which according to him is an indicator of the party’s growing popularity and acceptance among masses. “People irrespective of their social background, class, creed and social affiliations joined the party and made a commitment to work for us,” he added. Membership drive is considered to be a prelude to the party’s organisational elections which is likely to be conducted in the month of December.
