Agartala: Jan 28: State Women's Congress President Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty has condemned the harassment of a teacher, Paritosh Pal, and two students during a train journey, which occurred on January 26th. Pal, a teacher at Hari Radha Vidyalaya in Hadrai, was traveling with two students to drop them off at their homes when some Congress leaders accosted him. The teachers’ lack of a permission letter for the students’ travel from the hostel led to their interference. Despite Pal’s attempts to explain his innocence, the leaders handed him over to the police, and he was only released after the students' parents intervened at the police station.
The incident sparked outrage among the students, who boycotted classes in protest, demanding justice for Pal. The teacher also filed a complaint with the railway police regarding the Congress leaders’ actions. At a press conference, Chakraborty expressed strong disapproval of the harassment, denouncing the actions of the Congress leaders involved. State Congress spokesperson Pravir Chakraborty, who also attended the conference, joined in the condemnation, describing the harassment as "highly condemnable." He suggested that the incident occurred due to suspicion and urged Pal to forgive the leaders involved.
Pravir Chakraborty further clarified that the State Women's Congress President and the District President were not aware of the situation and were not involved in the incident. He speculated that there might be a conspiracy behind the linking of their names to the incident in the media and on social platforms.
Meanwhile, Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty emphasized that she only learned about the incident through media reports and expressed regret on behalf of the State Women's Congress. She strongly condemned the actions of the Congress leaders and voiced her concern over the entire episode.
