Agartala: jan 29: Prakash Karat, national coordinator of the CPI(M), delivered a scathing critique of the ruling BJP at the CPI(M) State Conference, accusing them of attempting to alter the very essence of democracy. Speaking at a public rally at Orient Chowmuhani, Karat emphasized that the BJP is systematically undermining democratic principles, silencing opposition, and manipulating the political landscape .

Karat condemned the Modi government's actions over the past eleven years, claiming they have dismantled parliamentary procedures, jailed opposition leaders, and falsely implicated them in cases to suppress dissent. He also pointed out the government's attempts to amend the Constitution to suit its own interests, undermining democracy at both national and state levels.

Despite the ruling party's refusal to grant permission for a rally at the traditional venue, Swami Vivekananda Maidan, the overwhelming turnout at the gathering sent a clear message. Karat expressed confidence that the BJP would receive a strong response through this show of solidarity.

The CPI(M) has a history of organizing protests and rallies, such as the one in Agartala demanding solutions to various crises faced by residents . The party has also staged mass agitations in the state capital, with former CM Manik Sarkar sharply criticizing the government's handling of post-flood situations.

In conclusion, Karat reaffirmed the Communist Party's commitment to protecting democracy and safeguarding the rights of the people, warning that as long as the BJP remains in power, democracy will remain in peril.
