Khowai Municipal Council Launches Entrepreneurship Development Programme for SHGs

The Khowai Municipal Council has initiated an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) aimed at empowering women and underprivileged communities in the district. The program is designed to provide savings, credit, and insurance services to poor women through the training of Self Help Groups (SHGs), promoting democratic participation and bottom-up planning within these community institutions.The EDP focuses on enhancing the entrepreneurship skills of SHG members, helping them improve livelihoods in both farm and non-farm sectors. This initiative was made possible through a collaboration between the Society for Entrepreneurship Development (SoFED), Agartala, and the Khowai Municipal Council, with sponsorship from the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission (TURLM) and the City Mission Management Unit. A total of 40 SHG members participated in the training sessions, which took place at the Old Town Hall in Khowai.The training sessions featured key discussions on entrepreneurship development, with . Kiran Bhowmik, a PhD scholar from the Economics Department of Tripura University, leading a session on the importance of entrepreneurship in today’s economic landscape. . Bhowmik emphasized the need for SHG members to enhance their skills and explore opportunities in various sectors to build sustainable livelihoods.Participants expressed their gratitude for the training, highlighting its potential to boost their economic prospects and contribute to the local economy. Kaushik Bhattacharjee, Programme Coordinator for SoFED, played a significant role in organizing the event.The EDP initiative, driven by the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, aims to foster sustainable economic growth and self-reliance among SHG members. By equipping these women with essential entrepreneurial skills, the program is expected to uplift communities and stimulate economic development in the Khowai region
