State-Level Tribute Ceremony Honors Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on His Birth Anniversary

Agartala, July 6: The state-level tribute ceremony commemorating the birth anniversary of Bharat Kesari Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee took place at Rabindra Shatabdi Bhavan. Dr. Mukherjee, a formidable politician, freedom fighter, philosopher, and people’s leader, played a pivotal role in opposing India’s partition. Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha presided over the event, emphasizing the influence of great leaders like Dr. Mukherjee and Deendayal Upadhyaya on the current Central and State Governments.

During the ceremony, students from 12 colleges participated in a quiz competition centered around Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s life and legacy. The Chief Minister himself engaged in a question-answer session and inaugurated an open quiz. Attendees also watched a documentary exploring Dr. Mukherjee’s philosophical contributions.

The quiz competition winners were Mahila Mahavidyalaya (first place), Sachin Dev Burman Smriti Sarkar Government Music College (second place), and Puratan Agartala Government Degree College (third place).

Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted the significance of Dr. Mukherjee’s opposition to the country’s partition. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to transparent development and celebrated the nationwide observance of Dr. Mukherjee’s birth anniversary.

Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s remarkable achievements include serving as Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University at just 33 years old. His principled stand against granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir cost him his life.

Tripura, as the first state to implement e-office up to the panchayat level, takes pride in its continuous efforts to improve socio-economic conditions. The Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, benefiting citizens in government hospitals and Tripura Medical College, now includes ILS Hospital. Plans are underway to establish an AIIMS in the state.

Dr. Jayanta Chakraborty, Associate Professor of IIT, delivered an insightful address on Dr. Mukherjee’s life, patriotism, and politics. Across the state’s 23 subdivisions, discussions, quizzes, and cultural programs marked this significant occasion. Subrata Chakraborty, Vice Chairman of the State-level Cultural Advisory Committee, also shared his thoughts during the event.
