Agartala, April 27: In a coordinated operation based on confidential intelligence, a joint team comprising the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and intelligence officials detained four Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala railway station on Sunday. The individuals were allegedly attempting to travel to other Indian states after illegally entering the country from Bangladesh.

The detainees have been identified as Jahirul Islam alias Jahir (42), Dilwar Hossain (44), Jamirul Islam (27), and Mohammad Zia (35). During preliminary interrogation, the group disclosed their intent to travel to major cities like Bengaluru and Chennai, raising concerns over potential illegal migration networks operating across state lines.

A formal case has been registered at the Agartala GRP police station, and all four will be produced before the court on Monday. Investigating agencies suspect the involvement of additional individuals or facilitators and are currently probing deeper into the case.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Agartala GRP police recovered 19 packets of cannabis from the Deoghar Express on Saturday. The seizure has further intensified scrutiny of passenger and luggage movement at the station. Speaking to the media, GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das confirmed the drug recovery and assured that investigations are underway to track those responsible for the illegal transport.

Following these back-to-back developments, security at Agartala railway station has been significantly tightened, with increased surveillance and patrolling to curb illegal activities and ensure passenger safety.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance at transit points and have urged citizens to report any suspicious movements to law enforcement.
