Agartala: April 23: The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress recently submitted a deputation to the Director General of Police (DGP), voicing strong protest against what they described as a worsening state of women’s safety in the region. Leading Congress leaders accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of administrative failure and inefficiency, alleging that Tripura is fast becoming one of the worst-governed states in the country.

During the deputation, the Mahila Congress presented alarming statistics that point to a surge in crimes against women, including several recent incidents of rape and murder. They claimed that these crimes reflect not only the deteriorating law and order situation but also a broader neglect of women's security and rights under the current administration. The leaders argued that the police and administrative systems have been increasingly politicized, preventing impartial investigations and swift justice for victims.

They further alleged that the government's focus has shifted from governance to political vendettas, leaving citizens, especially women, vulnerable and unprotected. The delegation demanded immediate action against the accused in recent cases and called for comprehensive reforms in law enforcement practices to ensure justice and safety for women across the state.

The Mahila Congress warned that if their demands are ignored and strict action is not taken, the party will escalate its agitation. Plans for larger state-wide protests are already in motion, they said, aiming to hold the government accountable for its inaction. The leaders urged civil society and women's rights groups to unite in pressing for change, emphasizing that women’s safety should transcend political divisions. The protest marks a significant escalation in political tension in Tripura, highlighting growing public dissatisfaction with the BJP’s governance, especially concerning law and order issues.
