Agartala: April 19: An important meeting of the Pradesh Congress Minority Department was convened on Saturday at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan. The meeting was presided over by Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha and attended by senior party leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with key members of the Minority Department.

During his address, MLA Sudip Roy Barman emphasized the constitutional responsibility of every citizen to uphold and protect the Constitution of India. He strongly criticized those who disrespect Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, asserting that such individuals continue to follow the outdated ideology of Manusmriti and remain trapped in medieval thinking.

He launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of undermining constitutional values. “The BJP does not truly respect the Constitution,” he said, citing a recent incident in Parliament where Union Home Minister Amit Shah allegedly made derogatory remarks about Dr. Ambedkar. According to Barman, this act reflects a broader agenda by the ruling party to erode democratic principles and curtail the rights enshrined in the Constitution.

Barman urged citizens across the nation to stand united in defense of constitutional values. He stressed the importance of maintaining communal harmony and avoiding conflicts based on religion or regional differences. “It is the duty of the common people to rise and participate in the struggle to protect the Constitution,” he said, adding that safeguarding democracy requires collective action from all sections of society.

The meeting served as a platform for reinforcing the Congress party’s commitment to constitutional values and minority rights, while calling upon the public to resist forces that threaten India's democratic framework.
