Agartala: April 18: Obstructions in developmental work will not be tolerated, warned Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and local MLA Deepak Majumdar during his inspection of the cover drain construction between IGM Chowmuhani and Orient Chowmuhani in Agartala. The Mayor was reviewing progress on the ongoing drainage project under the Agartala Smart City initiative, aimed at mitigating waterlogging issues during natural disasters.
Mayor Majumdar alleged that former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman and his family have been attempting to hinder the construction efforts. He claimed that engineers working on the site were obstructed several days ago, which led him to personally inspect the area to assess the situation.
Speaking to the media, the Mayor expressed concern over such interference and issued a strong warning. “If anyone, regardless of their political stature or influence, attempts to disrupt government work, the corporation will be forced to initiate legal action,” he stated. He made it clear that no individual or group will be allowed to stand in the way of development that benefits the public.
The cover drain project is a crucial part of Agartala’s broader infrastructure upgrade, intended to address long-standing drainage and flooding issues in the city. The Mayor reiterated the administration’s commitment to completing the project on time and without interference. He also urged all stakeholders to cooperate for the greater good of the city’s residents.
The incident has sparked political tension in the city, as the allegations involve a prominent political figure. However, the Mayor maintained that the development of Agartala will proceed as planned and that legal recourse will be considered if further disruptions occur.
