Activists affiliated to Tripura Pradesh Congress on Wednesday staged a protest against the ED chargesheet in the National Herald money laundering case and laid siege surrounding the local Enforcement Directorate office. The protestors shouted slogans against the ED, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led Central Government. A brief scuffle between the security personnel and Congress workers also erupted when the protests were underway.Senior Congress leaders including CWC member and member Sudip Roy Barman and TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha led the protestors and also addressed them at the end of the rally. All the leaders vehemently condemned the central government’s role in using central agencies like ED and CBI against the political adversaries.Speaking to the media persons, Congress CWC member Sudip Roy Barman said, “Modi government and BJP party want to divert the attention from real problems faced by the citizens of the country. With elections in states like Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal and Kerala round the corner, BJP is again trying hard to build a strong narrative against the Congress so that they hide their failure behind it.”Calling the charges framed against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as baseless, Roy Barman said, “All the allegations made in the Chargesheet are baseless and fabricated. But, still the government is trying to drag the case. We the Congress Party shall fight against this injustice both inside the court and in the streets.”On being asked what are the real issues that the government should focus on, he said, “The government’s priority should be to resolve the problem of farmers. It should make sure the day wage labourers have a social security net. The government should control the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities. Instead of that, mainstream discourses are focussed on Aurangazeb. Are we living in Medieval India?
