Kolkata, April 18: The International President of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Senior Advocate, Mr. Alok Kumar, voiced serious concern over the recent incidents of violence in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Speaking at a press conference at Bhasha Bhavan in Alipur, Kolkata, he condemned the brutal killings, riots, arson, looting, and large-scale displacement of Hindus in the region.
Mr. Kumar questioned why, despite protests occurring across India, such intense violence is being witnessed only in Bengal. He demanded a thorough probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the Murshidabad violence. He also criticized the West Bengal government for allegedly preventing relief organizations from reaching displaced Hindu families in Malda, calling the move “inhuman.”
He further expressed disappointment over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s silence, despite admitting that the attacks had international involvement, including that of foreign Bangladeshis. “If she acknowledges the severity and foreign links, why not demand an NIA probe?” he asked. Kumar stressed the need for immediate justice for the victims, stringent punishment for the perpetrators, and compensation for those who suffered property loss or displacement.
Mr. Kumar accused the ruling party of either ignoring or indirectly supporting extremist activities. He claimed that in recent years, violent targeting of Hindus under the pretext of various protests has become a disturbing trend in Bengal, which he believes cannot happen without political patronage.
He also condemned the state government’s reported decision to forcibly send displaced Hindu families back to Murshidabad, despite the victims fearing for their safety. “Sending them back without proper security is like handing them over to wolves,” Kumar said, urging the government to reconsider its decision and ensure central security before any resettlement. He called for national attention and unified action to safeguard the rights and safety of the affected Hindu community.
