Agartala: Mar 25: On the third day of the budget session in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister and Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, addressed a question raised by CPM MLA Dipankar Sen regarding the status of pharmacists in the state’s hospitals. The Chief Minister provided a detailed update on the current situation and future plans for improving the pharmacy workforce in Tripura's healthcare system.
Dr. Manik Saha revealed that there are currently 215 regular allopathy pharmacists and 192 fixed-salary pharmacists serving in various hospitals across the state. These pharmacists play a crucial role in ensuring the proper distribution and management of medicines in healthcare facilities. Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted that 190 pharmacists have been working in the same location for over five years, showcasing their long-term commitment to the state's health system.
While most health centers under the Health and Family Welfare Department are staffed with pharmacists, Dr. Saha acknowledged that some health centers are still lacking this vital resource. To address this gap, the government has already laid out plans to appoint new pharmacists at the centers that currently do not have them. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the overall healthcare infrastructure in Tripura, ensuring that all health centers are adequately equipped to serve the public.
The response from the Chief Minister reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the healthcare system in Tripura by ensuring a steady supply of qualified pharmacists to meet the growing healthcare needs of the population. With plans for further recruitment, the state aims to strengthen its healthcare services, especially in remote areas where medical facilities may otherwise be under-resourced.
