Agartala: Mar 31: On March 31, 2025, the CPI(M) marked the 28th martyrdom day of former Health Minister Bimal Sinha, who was tragically murdered on the same date in 1998. Sinha, who had secured a significant electoral victory in the Kamalpur Assembly constituency, was assassinated in Abhanga near the Dhalai River in Kamalpur, an incident that shook the state. The CPI(M) observes this day annually as Anti-Terrorism Day in his honor, underscoring the party’s stance against violence and terror.

During the commemorative event, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury made strong remarks about the current political climate. He accused the ruling party of harboring those responsible for Sinha’s murder, alleging that they have infiltrated the government and are bolstering its influence through terrorist activities and communal rhetoric. Choudhury argued that when the ruling party fails to win democratic battles, it resorts to undermining democratic processes by resorting to such methods.

The event was held at the CPI(M) state office in Melarmath, with leaders and party members paying tribute to Sinha’s portrait. Choudhury emphasized that since 1998, the CPI(M) has committed to observing March 31 as a day to denounce terrorism and its impact on democracy.

Looking ahead, the CPI(M) is preparing for its All India State Conference and Party Congress in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, scheduled for April 2. Choudhury confirmed that 48 members from Tripura would participate as observers. The conference will focus on reviewing the current political and economic challenges facing the country, especially under the BJP-led government. It will also explore the possibility of uniting secular political forces to collectively address these pressing issues.
