Agartala: Mar 28: The Tribal Liberation Council (GMP) has formally written to Governor Indrasena Reddy, demanding the immediate removal of Minister Ratan Lal Nath from the state cabinet. The letter, sent by the Tripura State Tribal Liberation Council, highlights a troubling incident that occurred during the Tripura Legislative Assembly session on March 24.
During a discussion on a corruption case involving a minister from the ruling party, Minister Ratan Lal Nath allegedly raised issues related to caste-based harassment and subsequently threatened the opposition leader who was criticizing him. The GMP condemned Nath’s behavior, asserting that such actions were not only inappropriate but also deeply insulting to democratic values, particularly to the tribal communities in the state.
The GMP stressed that the incident was unprecedented in the history of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, citing that caste-based behavior had never previously marred the Assembly's dignity in such a way. They expressed outrage over the minister’s conduct, calling it a direct affront to the integrity of the legislative process and an insult to those who have long fought against caste discrimination.
In their letter, the GMP demanded that Ratan Lal Nath be immediately dismissed from his cabinet position, claiming that his actions had damaged the image of the Assembly and created a hostile environment for democratic discourse. The Council's call for his removal reflects the growing dissatisfaction and discontent among tribal communities, who feel their rights and dignity were undermined by the minister’s remarks.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with calls from various sections of the society, particularly from tribal groups, for accountability and swift action against those who engage in discriminatory practices. The issue is now at the center of public debate, and many are watching closely to see if the government will take action in response to the GMP’s demands.
