Agartala: Nov 06: Despite repeated attempts by the police and traffic administration to manage traffic congestion in Agartala, the issue remains unresolved. In recent months, there have been multiple operations launched in the city to address the growing traffic jams, but the authorities have yet to take effective action. One of the key reasons behind the worsening traffic situation is the improper parking of two-wheelers along the streets, particularly by local vendors. This haphazard parking has led to significant congestion, especially on major roads, making it harder for vehicles to pass through smoothly.

On Wednesday morning, a team led by Traffic SP Manik Das and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer conducted another operation in the Bottala area. During the operation, it was observed that the traffic flow was significantly slower than usual, with vehicles unable to move freely. The traffic police also noted that several local businesses were parking their motorcycles and scooters on the roads, contributing to the growing traffic jams.

The authorities have now instructed the business owners to park their vehicles in designated parking zones rather than on the roads. They also expressed concerns about the street vendors operating on the sidewalks, which not only obstruct the roads but also pose a risk of accidents. The traffic police are planning to hold discussions with the relevant departments to ensure vendors are not allowed to operate on the roads.

However, despite these efforts, it remains to be seen whether these measures will have a lasting impact. The increasing traffic jams are making it difficult for residents to move around the city, with emergency vehicles often getting stuck in the congestion. Additionally, the frequent traffic signals, which are placed at short intervals, seem to exacerbate the issue, as vehicles are forced to stop repeatedly.
