Agartala: Mar 23: In Tripura, approximately 40% of the population falls under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, but their socio-economic status varies significantly, with many facing substantial deprivation of opportunities. Despite the sizable portion of the population being classified as OBC, they continue to struggle for their rights and access to equal opportunities. This struggle remains ongoing, with various organizations fighting for greater equity and justice.
Pabitra Kar, the state secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha, addressed the media, underscoring that today’s event was part of the ongoing movement for the rights of OBC people. He emphasized that the fight for justice is an essential movement for the community, which has long been excluded from many benefits that others may take for granted.
The event organized by the OBC SC and Minorities Forum aimed to honor and felicitate OBC individuals and students. The convention served as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of members of the OBC community and raise awareness about their socio-economic challenges. Pavitra Kar was also present at the event, showing his support for the cause and acknowledging the importance of collective action.
Kar further reflected on the historical neglect of OBC reservations during the tenure of the Left government, pointing out that the implementation of reservation laws had been ineffective. He stressed that there is now a growing demand for the BJP government to enforce the OBC reservation law more vigorously in the state to address the long-standing disparities. This call for action highlights the urgency to ensure that OBC individuals are provided with the rights and opportunities they deserve. The event reflects the community’s determination to continue advocating for change.
