Drug Smuggling via Trains: Agartala GRP Makes Arrest

Agartala: June 29:Tripura has become a drug corridor, with smugglers exploiting train routes for trafficking narcotics. The police administration faces challenges in curbing this illicit trade.

Dry cannabis is being smuggled out of the state to other regions. Simultaneously, phensedyl, brown sugar, yaba tablets, and other intoxicants are entering the state from neighboring areas. Trains serve as a preferred mode for drug traffickers. On Friday afternoon, Agartala GRP police apprehended Bir Bikash Bikram, a resident of Bihar, at Agartala railway station. The police found 22 kg of dry cannabis in his possession. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act.

Alongside the cannabis seizure, some phensedyl was also recovered. However, the owner of the phensedyl remains unidentified. The GRP police station is actively investigating the incident. The arrested cannabis smuggler was produced in court on Saturday. Efforts continue to trace the owner of the recovered phensedyl. The challenge persists for law enforcement agencies as they strive to curb drug trafficking via train networks.
