Agartala: May 25: While the recent financial aid announced by the Chief Minister for the grieving family in Chanmari has received widespread praise, opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury has urged the government to show the same compassion for similar past tragedies.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Choudhury acknowledged and appreciated the Chief Minister’s humanitarian gesture, which provided timely financial support to the family affected by the recent child death in Chanmari. He expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of the public for the government's swift response.
However, Choudhury also drew attention to earlier incidents involving the deaths of two children in Ramsundar Para of Mohanpur sub-division and a nine-year-old child in Kaladepa, Sabroom, who tragically passed away in June last year. According to him, the bereaved families in those cases are still waiting for any form of government assistance or acknowledgment.
He asserted that equal compassion and support should be extended to those families as well, emphasizing that every child’s life holds equal value. “If one family receives humanitarian aid, others who have suffered similar tragedies must not be overlooked,” Choudhury stated.
To formalize his appeal, the opposition leader has reportedly sent a letter to the Chief Minister, requesting that all past incidents involving child deaths be treated with the same seriousness and empathy. He stressed that the government should take a uniform and humane approach toward all such cases.
Choudhury’s remarks have sparked discussions in both social and political circles across the state, with many viewing his call as a reminder of the need for consistency in compassionate governance, especially in matters involving the loss of young lives.
