Agartala: May 24: A horrifying incident in South Tripura’s Kaladhepa area has left the state in shock, as the body of a nine-year-old girl, Ujjashika, was found near a rubber plantation under the Manubazar police station. Investigations revealed that the girl was murdered by her own elder brother, Sahil Tripura, in a deeply disturbing case marked by toxic family dynamics and long-standing emotional neglect.
The case initially sparked confusion regarding the age of the accused. However, police later confirmed that Sahil is over 18 years old and legally an adult. His arrest followed mounting public outrage and political attention, with several parties intervening due to the sensitive nature of the incident and rising local tensions.
According to police sources, Sahil had a troubled childhood. Born out of wedlock, he was raised by his mother, Sabita Tripura, who later married another man. After years of family life, Ujjashika was born. From that point, the household’s attention shifted entirely to her, leaving Sahil feeling unloved and sidelined. Neighbors and family acquaintances alleged that Ujjashika received all the affection and attention, while Sahil was routinely ignored and emotionally neglected.
This emotional neglect allegedly built deep resentment in Sahil. Sources say Ujjashika didn’t treat him with respect either, often disregarding his authority as an elder sibling, which further fueled his bitterness.
On the day of the murder, Sahil lured his sister to a nearby rubber plantation. In his confession to the police, he claimed that he didn’t intend to kill her, only to "teach her a lesson." However, the assault proved fatal.
Initially, their mother Sabita was detained, but she was later released after Sahil admitted to the crime. The case has raised serious concerns about mental health, family dynamics, and child protection in the region.
