Agartala, May 19: Following the heartbreaking incident in Agartala’s Chanmari area where two children lost their lives, CPM Politburo member and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury rushed to the area on Monday morning. He appealed to the administration to ensure that the grieving family receives all due government assistance and is not deprived of any welfare benefits.

Speaking to the media, Choudhury said that Prosenjit Debnath (11) and Priyanka Debnath (9), children of Krishna Debnath, tragically died in a water-filled pit located near their home. The pit, reportedly used for construction work, became a death trap after the children went missing and were later found dead on Sunday.

Choudhury visited the family's house in Chanmari with the intention of expressing his condolences and offering support. However, upon arrival, he was informed that the children's parents had left for their residence in Jirania, likely due to the emotional toll of the tragedy.

Despite not meeting the parents directly, the CPM leader reiterated his appeal to the administration to immediately take steps to support the family, especially given their economically disadvantaged background. He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure such families are not left out of essential benefits and aid during times of distress.

Choudhury also highlighted the need for proper safety measures at construction sites to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future, calling for strict administrative vigilance and accountability.
