Agartala, May 17: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Minister of State S.P. Singh Baghel, inaugurated a state-of-the-art milk processing plant with a capacity of 40 TLPD (Thousand Litres Per Day) at Bamutia in West Tripura on Saturday. The plant, established by the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹23 crore with joint funding from the central and state governments.
The facility is poised to play a crucial role in strengthening Tripura’s dairy infrastructure, reducing dependence on milk imports, and enhancing rural livelihoods through cooperative-driven development.
Speaking at the inauguration, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) emphasized Tripura’s potential to become self-sufficient in dairy and fisheries. He assured full support from the central government to help the state realize this goal.
“Tripura has the resources and determination needed to achieve self-reliance in milk and fish production. The Centre is committed to supporting this vision,” Singh stated. He also announced that a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries will visit Tripura in June to develop a detailed roadmap for the mission, subject to the Chief Minister’s availability.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, addressing the event, reaffirmed the state government's commitment to making Tripura self-sufficient in the production of eggs, fish, meat, and milk within the next five years. He said the government is working in "mission mode" to empower farmers and producers in these sectors.
The inauguration marks a milestone in Tripura's rural economic development, creating new opportunities for local milk producers and contributing to the state’s goal of agricultural and nutritional self-sufficiency.
