Encroachers will not be allowed, says Mayor Dipak Majumder

Mayor Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder on Wednesday issued a terse warning to the city dwellers responsible for encroachment on land owned by the Government of Tripura. e said that the city corporation would take strict possible measures to combat such malpractices. Citing an instance, he alleged that one Jatish Debbarma of Ujan Abhoynagar area refused to vacate government land for restoration and beautification of the local water body. “He challenged the AMC in court. After a prolonged legal battle, the court delivered its verdict in AMC’s favour and now the land is being vacated. We are trying our level best to maintain that any permanent infrastructure of Debbarma’s house doesn't get harmed. We believe in cooperation and development,” he added.The Mayor also informed the media persons that for city beautification, as many as five water bodies would be restored within this financial year.“In the AMC budget Rs 17 crore has been earmarked for city beautification through water bodies only. This specific project at Ujan Abhoynagar will cost us Rs 2 crore,” said Majumder.
