IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for Tripura

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Tripura for the next four days. According to a press release from the Meteorological Centre in Agartala, adverse weather is likely to continue across several districts until 16 May.Significant rainfall was recorded in parts of the state during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Monday. Khowai district recorded the highest rainfall at 96.4 mm, while Bodhjungnagar in Agartala received 46.5 mm. Amarpur followed closely with 45.4 mm. Other areas, including Ashapara, Kumarghat, and Manughat, also saw between 40 to 55 mm of rainfall. However, southern towns like Sabroom, Belonia, and Bagafa saw little to no rain.The forecast indicates that Tripura will continue to experience light to moderate rain and thundershowers. On 13 May, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in West Tripura and Khowai. Heavy showers are also likely in North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Gomati, and Sepahijala. Thunderstorms with winds reaching up to 50 km/h are forecast across the state.Similar conditions will persist through 14 and 15 May, with most districts, including South Tripura, facing continued rainfall and strong winds. On 16 May, rain may ease slightly but will still affect Sepahijala and West Tripura.
