12 Bangladeshi nationals arrested Sabroom amidst tension in border

As many as 12 Bangladeshi nationals had been arrested in separate operations in the last 24 hours. The first arrest was made at Agartala city’s Lichubagan area on Thursday night when Tripura Police’s night patrolling team noticed suspicious movement of an unidentified individual. When detained, he revealed that his name was Litan Miah, a Bangladeshi national.“Further interrogation revealed that he had entered India without a passport. He had been arrested and produced before the court on Friday,” a police official from NCC police station said.On the other hand, eleven Bangladeshi nationals attempting to return to their homeland were apprehended by local residents in Sabroom on Friday. They were subsequently handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police.The group, comprising three men, four women, and four minor children, was found sheltering in an abandoned house owned by Dhananjay Debnath.Their presence raised suspicion among residents of Krishnanagar Gram Panchayat under the Poangbari block in the Sabroom subdivision.Alerted by their activities, locals discovered the group had gathered at the deserted property. The villagers, later, surrounded the individuals and informed the authorities.BSF personnel and police arrived promptly at the spot and took them into custody.
