The Tripura Adivasi Congress on Monday submitted a deputation at Siksha Bhavan, urging the state government to officially adopt the Roman script for printing Kokborok language textbooks and examination question papers across all levels. With this initiative, the Congress party has expressed moral support for the long-standing demand of several tribal literary bodies and ruling allies Tipra Motha and IPFT, both of which have consistently advocated for the Roman script. Meanwhile, the BJP-led government appears indecisive on finalizing the script.he Adivasi Congress leaders led a rally from the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, which passed through several city roads before culminating in front of Siksha Bhavan.Speaking to the media, TPCC General Secretary and Chairman of the Tripura Pradesh Adivasi Congress, Shabda Kumar Jamatia, stated, “The rally was organized to strongly press for the adoption of the Roman script. A majority of indigenous people support the use of Roman script, and we stand with the popular sentiment. We call on the government to officially allow the use of Roman script, particularly for Kokborok textbooks and examination materials.”Jamatia also criticized what he termed as administrative efforts to suppress the use of Roman script, going against the will of Kokborok-speaking communities. “An RTI reply revealed that the government currently recognizes only Bengali and Devanagari scripts for Kokborok educational content. We condemn this exclusion and urge the authorities to adopt Roman script, in line with the collective opinion of the majority of Kokborok literary organizations,” he added. It is worth noting that Tipra Motha has also been actively campaigning for the same demand.
